A Life With Macaws

Hello everyone!  I am in the process of writing a book called A Life With Macaws...along with filming videos on some of the topics mentioned below...until the book is done and the videos are ready to be watched...please enjoy the articles and pictures on this website...please contact me if you have any questions!

Macaws are easily one of the most beautiful...funny...playful...and intelligent creatures on this Planet!
Join me and my Macaw crew Paco, Kida, and Gomez as we share our daily lives and research on how to live successfully with your Macaw...or Macaws for the more daring and courageous of you out there!

If you have never owned a parrot before...then considering a Macaw as your first choice might be a very unwise decision...PLEASE read the questions below and then re-think your decision...

If you can fulfill the requirements necessary to bring a Macaw into your home as a companion...the questions below will come up again and again...and these questions and many others we will discuss later...are are the reasons I started this blog...to prevent YOU from making a mistake that could break your heart...and the heart of the Macaw...remember...when a Macaw 'chooses you'...it is for life...and if and when you decide to 're-home' your Macaw...for the Macaw it is similar to you losing a loved one...a spouse...a child...or another companion animal...so PLEASE be careful...and consider what is truly required to add a Macaw to your life or the lives of your family members.

So...after explaining the seriousness of the decision to get a Macaw...or add another to your home...the following topics will be discussed in my new book:
  1. Why do you want a Macaw...has anyone ever discussed with you what is truly involved and required from you?
  2. What is it like to have a Macaw as a family member...how will having a Macaw change my life forever?
  3. Should I buy a baby from a breeder....or purchase an older Macaw from a rescue or other method?
  4. How do I feed a Macaw...where do I buy food?
  5. What is a 'healthy diet' for a Macaw...and what foods can injure or even kill  a Macaw?
  6. How should I setup my kitchen so it is easy to store food...prepare meals and make clean-up easy?
  7. Why is a high-quality air purifier needed in every room the Macaw spends time in?
  8. What odors or smells can harm or kill a Macaw?
  9. What are the safest cleaning products to use...and how do I manage the mess created each day by a healthy Macaw?
  10. How much of my time is required each day to have a enjoyable and nurturing relationship with a Macaw?
  11. Why do I need a high-quality water filtration system for a Macaw?
  12. How do I shower or bathe a Macaw...how can I setup my bathroom so it is safe to give my Macaw a shower?
  13. What are the best cages for a Macaw...how large should the cage be?
  14. How can I build my own perches and stands for a Macaw?
  15. Why is an outdoor aviary and sunshine important for a Macaw?
  16. What are common diseases Macaws can develop...how do I choose a vet for a Macaw?
  17. What pets are safe to have with a Macaw...and which pets are dangerous?
  18. Is it a good idea to have young children around a Macaw?
  19. What are the best methods to train a Macaw?
  20. Can I still take vacations...and work overtime and weekends?
  21. Why do Macaws bite and why do they scream...and why do they pluck their feathers?
  22. Can I live in an apartment...condo...or townhouse with a Macaw?
  23. Can I be married and have a Macaw?
  24. Should I have more than one Macaw?

There are many more questions that can be asked...but these are among the most important...and should be considered by anyone considering adding a Macaw to their life...and this book and videos will consider all of them...and demonstrate how to accomplish feeding, housing, showering, training, perch building and aviary design, kitchen design, cooking methods and foods, where to shop for food...and give suggestions and answers that are either difficult or impossible to find in most books on Macaws.

For those of us that have had Macaws for years...this blog will discuss issues that are common and require conversations and coaching from experienced breeders and caretakers that have had Macaws for many years.

These experienced breeders and caretakers are mentioned in the Thank You section above.

Thank you for loving your Macaw enough to continue your research and deepen your knowledge...both for your safety...and for their safety.
